PCC team visits Kathua, seeks adequate relief, rehab for victims

KATHUA, Aug 19: A team of J&K Congress today visited different relief camps in Kathua and met the affected people and shared the grief of families who lost their members in cloudburst & flash floods in parts of Kathua district.
Led by working president Raman Bhalla, former MP Ch Lal Singh, former MLA Th Balbir Singh, chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, former Minister Yash Pal Kundal, DCC president Kathua Pankaj Dogra, DCC president Jammu Th Manmohan Singh, and others, the Congress leaders expressed sympathies with the affected people and said that entire party is in solidarity with them and shall press for their proper rehabilitation and relief by the Centre and UT Government.
Seeking a special Central package for relief and rehabilitation of the affected population who have suffered loss of lives and immense damage to their property, apart from having been uprooted from their lands and homes, the Congress leaders shared the grief on behalf of Congress central leadership Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi besides PCC leadership of Tariq Hameed Karra.
They urged the Central Government to come forward to give adequate relief to those who have lost their family members besides loss of shelters and erosion of agriculture land and ensure that these poor people have lost their lands for future sustenance and living.
The Government should frame a proper policy for the settlements of uprooted families by providing alternate lands, shelter and adequate financial aid for construction of shelter and Rs 10 lakhs for the loss of life.
The Congress delegation also expressed concern over the imminent danger to the inhabitants of Maggar Khad area where cracks have developed in the protection wall near Railway track. The administration should take immediate steps on war footing to ensure safety of their lives.
They assured the affected people that Congress party shall make the Government accountable to expeditiously rehabilitate the affected people.
