JAMMU, Aug 17: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra today led a team of senior Congress leaders to Chashoti-Paddar in Kishtwar district, which was recently hit by a devastating cloudburst.
He urged the Centre to announce a special package for relief and rehabilitation of the affected people.
Karra, accompanied by Working President Raman Bhalla, former Minister G M Saroori, veteran leader Sheikh Haider, former Legislators Naresh Gupta and Sham Lal Bhagat, DCC President Asif Naqeeb and several other senior party functionaries, visited the affected areas, interacted with the local population and reviewed the rescue and relief operations.
The PCC Chief expressed deep shock over the loss caused by the natural calamity and lauded local residents and volunteers for extending immediate help to victims and working shoulder to shoulder with rescue teams.
He said the gravity of the tragedy demands urgent intervention from the Government of India, in coordination with the UT administration, to ensure proper rehabilitation measures.
The visiting leaders also took stock of ongoing relief work and praised the dedication of all those engaged in helping the affected families.
Karra assured the people that the party would continue to highlight their concerns and press for necessary infrastructure and Government support.
He directed Congress cadres, especially the youth, to remain actively involved in assisting victims in cooperation with the administration.
