He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a stakeholder interaction held here as part of the Income Tax Department’s “Special Grievance Redressal Week” (April 6-10) across J&K, aimed at fast-tracking pending complaints and improving taxpayer services.
Saroha said sustained engagement with the public – including interactions with trade bodies, schools, and outreach activities such as marathons – is essential for effective communication and timely grievance redressal.
During the interaction, Saroha met representatives of the Kashmir Income Tax Bar Association, Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and other trade bodies, stressing that sustained engagement is key to addressing taxpayer concerns.
He said the department regularly conducts outreach programmes with trade bodies, educational institutions and the general public to improve communication and compliance.
An IT official, Moin Sidique said the session focused on resolving issues faced by taxpayers, particularly those related to TDS, and enhancing awareness about digital tax infrastructure.
“We are working hard on the issues of taxpayers and will get them resolved,” Sidique said, underlining the need for greater familiarity with technology-driven filing systems.
As part of the ongoing drive, pending grievances registered on platforms such as e-Nivaran, CPGRAMS and the Online Grievance Entry System are being prioritised for disposal.
Help desks and facilitation counters have also been set up at Income Tax offices to provide on-ground assistance to taxpayers.
G.S. Phani Kishore, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Amritsar, said the initiative is being implemented across all stations in J&K, with a one-day camp office planned in Leh to extend services to Ladakh.
Saroha is also scheduled to visit the Srinagar Income Tax Office to review progress and interact with taxpayers. Officials said supervisory authorities are conducting daily monitoring to ensure timely redressal of grievances.
The department has urged taxpayers with pending complaints to utilise the dedicated week for speedy resolution.
