UDHAMPUR, Feb 21: Senior leader Pawan Khajuria undertook a two-day tour of remote areas of the Udhampur East Assembly constituency, visiting far-flung villages of Bavey and Garh, and interacting with residents to take stock of their problems.
Accompanied by senior activists and local leaders, Khajuria trekked on foot to several difficult-to-access habitations where he met villagers, enquired about their well-being and listened to their grievances. During the visit, he contacted concerned departmental officials on the spot and facilitated the resolution of a number of issues, while assuring early redressal of the remaining demands.
Residents raised several civic concerns, including electricity, drinking water supply, road connectivity, healthcare and revenue-related matters. However, the acute shortage of teachers in Government schools emerged as a major issue, with parents stating that inadequate staff was adversely affecting students and the overall quality of education.
Expressing serious concern, Khajuria said education is the foundation of a progressive society and that the lack of teaching staff amounts to injustice to children. He urged the concerned department to immediately fill vacant posts and make temporary arrangements to ensure smooth academic functioning.
Reiterating that public service remains his top priority, he said the problems of people living in remote areas would be addressed on a priority basis and that the benefits of development must reach the last person in the queue.
During the tour, representatives of various social organisations and local leaders also met him and discussed issues related to regional development.
Those who accompanied Khajuria included Captain Gopal Singh, Bishan Dass, Rahul Gupta, Kuldeep Singh, Bhushan Singh, Sohan Lal, Mukhtyar Singh, Mohammad Rafiq, Kuldeep Sharma, Love Kumar and Balwan Singh.
