UDHAMPUR, Feb 6: Senior political leader, Pawan Khajuria held a meeting with organisation activists at his Udhampur office to discuss the current political situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
Khajuria emphasized that the democratic structure in J&K needs to be strengthened. He urged the UT Government to conduct Municipal and Panchayat elections without further delay.
He said in the absence of local representatives, the problems of the common people are not being resolved at the ground level.
He praised Prime Minister, Narendra Modi for implementing the 73rd and 74th Amendments in J&K, which gave real power to local bodies and boosted development.
He accused the National Conference (NC) Government of conspiring to weaken democracy by avoiding local elections.
He complimented Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha for his recent Assembly speech, where he assured that local body elections would be held soon.
Khajuria launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, calling the budget introduced by him in Assembly today “disappointing” and “anti-people.”He stated the budget lacks a solid roadmap for the future and fails to offer anything substantial for the development of the region.
He alleged that the Government has ignored the interests of youth, farmers, and traders.
According to Khajuria, the current Government is simply “passing time” rather than working for the welfare of the people.
Khajuria called upon party workers to go among the public and expose the failures of the present Government. He reiterated that overall development in J&K is impossible until democracy is restored at the grassroots level.
Prominent leaders present at the meeting included: Rakesh Gupta (former vice president, Municipal Council), Vikas (former district general secretary), Captain (retd) Yog Raj, Amit Sharma (DDC Member), Rakesh (councilor), and several former Sarpanches and local leaders who all joined the demand for early elections.
