According to the ACB, a case was registered against Patwari Ganderab Singh of Patwar Halqa Thalora, Tehsil Majalta, and Kuldeep Kumar, a Chowkidar, after a complainant reported that the Patwari had demanded illegal gratification to rectify his name in official revenue documents.
Acting on the complaint, the Bureau conducted discreet verification, which confirmed the allegation. A formal FIR was lodged at ACB Police Station Udhampur, following which a trap team led by a Deputy SP was constituted.
The team later trapped both accused public servants while they were allegedly receiving the bribe amount. They were arrested on the spot in the presence of independent witnesses, and the tainted money was recovered from their possession.
A search of the Patwari’s residential accommodation in Khoon (Majalta) was also carried out in the presence of a magistrate. The ACB said further investigation in the case is underway.
In a separate development, the ACB today filed a charge sheet in Srinagar against Tanveer Ahmad Dar, then Assistant Engineer in the BDO Suresyar Chadoora office, in a case related to a Rs 2,000 bribe demand for clearing NREGA bills. Dar was trapped and arrested in December 2023 after being caught accepting the bribe, with chemical tests confirming phenolphthalein traces on his hands.
Upon completion of investigation and after obtaining prosecution sanction, the charge-sheet was presented before the Additional Special Judge Anti-Corruption Court, Srinagar. The case is listed for the next hearing on February 17, 2026.
