SRINAGAR, Mar 10: Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today caught a Patwari red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 for issuing revenue extracts in Batmaloo area of Srinagar.
An ACB spokesperson said the Bureau received a written complaint alleging that Patwari Halqa Batmaloo, Saffdar Hussain Mir, was demanding Rs 10,000 as bribe for issuing revenue extracts in favour of a relative of the complainant. The accused had allegedly asked the complainant to pay the amount today to obtain the required documents.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB and lodged a written complaint seeking legal action against the accused public servant.
Acting on the complaint, the ACB conducted a pre-trap verification which established the demand for the bribe. Subsequently, FIR Number 05/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered at ACB Police Station Srinagar and investigation was taken up.
During the course of investigation, a trap team was constituted by the Bureau. The team laid a successful trap and caught the accused Patwari Saffdar Hussain Mir red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 10,000 from the complainant.
The accused was immediately taken into custody after completing all medico-legal formalities, the spokesperson said, adding, further investigation in the case is underway.
