Patwari booked for demanding Rs 17000 bribe in Udhampur

UDHAMPUR, Feb 2: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered an FIR against a revenue official (Patwari) for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 17,000 in Tikri area of Udhampur district.
Mohammad Hanif, Patwari of Halqa Tikri in Udhampur district was booked in case FIR number 01/2026 registered under section 7 PC Act 1988 at Police Station ACB Central, Jammu, for allegedly demanding the bribe in lieu of letting the complainant carry on the construction work of a house.
Quoting the complainant, an ACB official said that the accused revenue official initially demanded Rs 30,000 as bribe but later settled at Rs 17,000, while threatening the complainant that the construction work, including laying of the roof slab, would not be permitted without payment.
He said after verification confirmed the demand, ACB registered the FIR and laid a trap to arrest the Patwari red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount in the presence of witnesses.
The accused revenue official, however, managed to flee from the spot, the ACB official said.
According to him, further investigation and efforts to trace the accused are underway.
