UDHAMPUR, May 27: MLA Udhampur East Ranbir Singh Pathania today said that Udhampur East is steadily moving towards becoming a major hub of sports and recreational activities with the development of modern sports infrastructure across the constituency.
Addressing media persons here, Pathania informed that a state-of-the-art multi-disciplinary stadium is coming up at Mahalanga Chaugan, Thail. He said an amount of Rs 1.20 crore has already been spent on the project, while an additional Rs 2 crore has been sanctioned for its further expansion and development.
He stated that the stadium will include a standard cricket ground with a curated pitch developed as per prescribed standards, chain-link fencing, volleyball, basketball and handball courts, practice pitches, waiting pavilions, changing rooms, pathways and other essential infrastructure required for conducting sporting events and training activities.
The MLA further informed that mini stadiums at Kawa, Karowa, Mand West, Manwal, Sundla, Billaspur and Majalta are also in the pipeline to strengthen sports facilities in rural and remote areas.
Pathania said that sports infrastructure is not merely about creating facilities but about building a healthier and stronger society. “Sports nurture discipline, brotherhood and team spirit. They keep our youth physically fit, mentally resilient and away from the menace of drugs. Sportsmanship teaches us how to face victory and defeat with courage and dignity,” he remarked.
He added that such facilities would provide a suitable platform for local talent to compete and excel at the national level. On the issue of Jal Jeevan Mission, Pathania said every habitation deserves access to safe and adequate drinking water and appealed to the people to exercise patience. He informed that pending reports are being reviewed and a phased approach is being adopted for speedy implementation of schemes.
Expressing concern over the recent heinous crime at Budgam, Pathania strongly condemned the incident and said such barbaric acts deserve the strictest punishment under law. He reiterated his commitment towards holistic development and prosperity of Udhampur East.
