RAMBAN, June 30: Police arrested a passenger traveling in a taxi along with 24 kilograms poppy straw from Baggu Nallah area, falling under the jurisdiction of Batote police station.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Batote police station laid a naka at Baggu Nallah and intercepted a Tavera car bearing registration number JK02C-2515.
During checking, police recovered 24 kilograms poppy straw concealed in a steel trunk was recovered from the possession of a passenger and arrested the accused.
The arrested passenger has been identified as Ameer Hussain, son of Habib Ahmed, a resident of Saharanpur, Uttar Pardesh.
A case under FIR Number 40/16 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at police station Batote and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Batote Inspector Sameer Jeelani made the arrest under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Ramban Mohammad Rafiq Choudhary, Additional SP Ramban Mushtaq Ahmed and SSP Ramban Randeep Kumar.
