Parties practicing vote-bank politics trying to obstruct Centre’s development plans: Minister

KORBA, July 15: Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Friday claimed parties engaged in politics of appeasement for votes have been trying to disturb the country’s atmosphere in a bid to stymie the Modi Government’s development measures and undermine India’s growing stature in the world.
Addressing a press conference here, the Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Minister also accused the Congress Government in Chhattisgarh of committing irregularities in implementing the Centre’s welfare schemes.
Asked why questions are being raised over faith, Singh said, “Parties which have been doing politics of appeasement for decades for votes have been trying to disturb the atmosphere of the country to derail the Modi government’s development (measures) and growing prestige of the country in the world. They have been trying it since the Modi government came to power (in 2014).”
The BJP leader, without taking names, said these political forces want to thwart India’s march towards development. “Sometimes they did it in the name of Afzal Guru (Parliament attack convict). When a terrorist is convicted, they all gather and approach court in the midnight (to save him). They want to disturb the atmosphere..Even the ‘yuvraj’ of the Congress (a reference to Rahul Gandhi) on Udaipur killing said ‘they were children and did childish acts’. So to subvert progress and growing prestige of the country, they did politics of appeasement,” he said.
The Union minister was apparently referring to a doctored clip of Rahul Gandhi played by a TV news channel. The video, in which the Lok Sabha MP from Kerala described those attacking his office in Wayanad as “children” and said he had no ill-will against them, was “mischievously” used by the TV channel on July 1 to suggest he was forgiving the killers of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal.
Singh targeted the ruling Congress and said the people of Chhattisgarh have not been getting benefits of the Centre’s welfare schemes like the Garib Kalyan Yojna due to alleged irregularities in their implementation. The Bhupesh Baghel Government “snatched” 11 lakh houses of the poor. The state government did not provide a matching grant and therefore, the Centre had to withdraw its share of funds from the housing scheme (PMAY), he added.
The Union Minister also alleged irregularities in distribution of rice to the poor in the state under the Garib Kalyan Yojna. “The Congress Government has become a cut money Government and an ATM of the party’s central leadership,” he claimed. Singh is on a four-day visit to Korba since July 13 to review the implementation of Central Government schemes. (PTI)
