Srinagar, Apr 11: Panic gripped Khanpora area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district along Srinagar-Uri Highway after stones started to roll down from a nearby mountain due to blasts by stone-quarry workers.
Residents said that the stone-quarries which are operating from the area have become nuisance for the local populace as blasts trigger landslides and also the stones roll down from the mountain.
“Today these stones, which are large in size, started to come down from the mountain and converged on Highway. These stones as well as mudslides are threatening lives and properties of people and hence could result in a tragedy,” the residents added.
They said that despite repeated pleas to authorities and concerned officials there has been no action against the stone-quarry owners. “We appeal Deputy Commissioner to kindly intervene into the matter and save our area from any major tragedy,” the residents added.
