JAMMU, Aug 4: Panic gripped passengers onboard a bus travelling from Kathua to Jammu after it suddenly caught fire following a tyre burst in Kaluchak area. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.
According to reports, the mishap occurred this morning when one of the tyres of the passenger bus burst mid-journey, immediately triggering a fire that quickly began to spread. Acting swiftly, the bus driver and conductor managed to safely evacuate all the passengers before the flames intensified. The duo also made initial attempts to douse the blaze, but the fire spread rapidly.
Fire brigade personnel reached the scene promptly and succeeded in bringing the fire under control, preventing it from causing further damage or injuries. Their timely response ensured that a potentially tragic incident was averted.
Sudarshan Choudhary, an insurance company representative deputed to assess the loss, said that preliminary findings indicate the fire originated due to the tyre burst. He further added that the damage to the vehicle is being evaluated, and an official report will be prepared accordingly.
Meanwhile, the local police have initiated a formal investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
