RAJOURI, Aug 29: A group of students from ST-II category (Pahari) today staged a strong protest demonstration in Rajouri, expressing resentment against the concerned Government Departments for the undue delay in the disbursement of scholarships.
The agitating students even resorted to a hunger strike, alleging that despite repeated assurances, their scholarship amount has not been released.
The protest created tense scenes in the town as the students raised slogans demanding immediate release of their pending scholarships. They said the delay was causing severe hardship to economically weaker students, many of whom depend on the scholarship to continue their education.
Later, the District Administration along with Police officials reached the spot and intervened to pacify the situation. After giving assurances that the matter would be taken up with the concerned authorities for speedy redressal, the students agreed to suspend their protest.
The students, however, warned that if the issue is not resolved at the earliest, they would be compelled to intensify their agitation in the coming days.
