SRINAGAR, Feb 8: The authorities in Srinagar have ordered shutting down of all shops selling cigarettes and tobacco products near schools and have declared schools of the district as no smoking zones. The Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Baseer Ahmed Khan directed the Chief Education Officer, Srinagar to ensure that ‘no-smoking’ signs were put up at all schools, both Government and private, and tobacco vendors within a 100-yard radius

War of CDs in Police Deptt!

A war of Compact Disks (CDs) has broken out in the Police Department due to rivalry among some senior police officers. The CDs carrying abusive language and deals on land grabbing were in circulation within the Police Department. Copies of these CDs have also reached the offices of various newspapers. The CDs indicated that a SDPO wanted to strike a deal on land grabbing while a former SHO was using abusive language. They were shown acting as middlemen for the deal. Girl dies, 5 hurt in fire

SRINAGAR, Feb 8: A seven-year-old girl died of burn injuries and five others were admitted to hospital after fire broke out in a Srinagar locality early today. The girl identified as Naureen daughter of Showkat Ahmed Dhobi died while four children and a woman were admitted to SMHS hospital in a critical condition. Police said that the fire broke out in the joint residential house of Showkat Ahmed Dhobi, Ghulam Rasool Dhobi and Farooq Ahmad Dhobi of Basant Bagh, Srinagar. One house was gutted completely while six others were partially damaged in the blaze. Four children and a woman were also injured in the fire. They have been shifted to SMHS, Srinagar for treatment. Three children were discharged from the hospital after treatment while 8-year old girl Mehreen and wife of Farooq Ahmad Dobi are undergoing treatment.
