Paediatric hospital Sonwar likely to be shifted to Bemina by April end

SRINAGAR, Mar 21: Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar is all set to shift the Paediatric Hospital from Sonwar to the newly constructed 500-bedded Paediatric Hospital in Bemina by this April end while it is awaiting the final nod from the executive agencies to carry out the handing over process of the hospital building.
In this regard, the officials told Excelsior that already 10-4 additional Out Patient Department (OPD) services are currently on at the newly created hospital while some of the specialities have already been shifted to the hospital building from the GB Panth Hospital, Sonwar.
Medical Superintendent of Children Hospital, Sonwar Dr Nazir Chowdhary told Excelsior that they are expecting the hospital will be shifted entirely within a month and with regard to the shifting, they have held a number of meetings with the officials of the concerned departments
“There was a meeting with the R&B and Mechanical Department regarding the status of the hospital on Saturday last; we are again meeting the officials on April 5 regarding the same,” he said adding that the concerned departments have committed that within a month, the shifting of the hospital is going to be possible.
The authorities at GMC Srinagar said that they are ready for the shifting to Bemina and they have already put in place the necessary requirements in this regard. “We are waiting for the nod from the agencies, rest we are ready with the shifting of the hospital,” they said.
Earlier in October last year, the OPD services were started at the hospital after a portion of the hospital building was completed and handed over to the GMC authorities for running the same. Since then, the portions that were completed have been handed over to the hospital authorities, however, with overall works done, the GMC is now awaiting a final nod on the shifting from the concerned agencies.
The officials said that for running the OPDs, the doctors, consultants and other paramedics have already been stationed at the hospital that are additionally taking care of the patients reaching here from various parts of Kashmir and has also decreased the OPD load of the Sonwar Hospital.
The hospital is going to have a number of super and sub-specialities such as Paediatric Nephrology, Cardiology, Haematology as well as Gastroenterology while as the necessary additional manpower such as doctors, consultants as well paramedics have already been recruited with all eyes on the shifting of the hospital from congested Sonwar area to Bemina.
