SRINAGAR, Nov 12: After remaining suspended, the Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla today restarted its Permanent Pacemaker Implantation Service.
The service, revived following the appointment of a qualified cardiologist, officials said, will help in strengthening cardiac care in north Kashmir.
“The reinstatement means patients with heart rhythm disorders can now avail advanced pacing therapy within Baramulla itself, without having to travel to hospitals in Srinagar or outside the district,” officials said.
Notably, the service was suspended for several months due to the absence of a cardiologist.
The first procedures after the restart were successfully conducted by Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Mustafa Bashir under the supervision of Dr. Nisar Ahmad Khan, Head of the Department of Medicine.
The Department of Anesthesia and Operation Theatre staff extended full support to ensure smooth and successful implantation.
Importantly, the procedures were performed free of cost under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme, enabling underprivileged patients to access advanced cardiac treatment without financial burden.
GMC Baramulla staff hailed the restart of the service, expressing gratitude to Principal Prof. Dr. Majid Jahangir and Medical Superintendent Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi.
