Full disbursal delayed due to non-submission of documents by landowners

JAMMU, Nov 10: The Government of Punjab has sanctioned an amount of Rs 71.15 crore for the families affected due to the construction of Ranjit Sagar Dam Project in Basohli area of Kathua district.
Of this amount, Rs 50.51 cr (approximately 71%) has been disbursed among the ousted families so far, while the remaining payment to the other affected families is yet to be made in view of non-submission of the documents by the landowners.
According to the Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (DMRRR) of the Jammu and Kashmir, a total of 41 awards were issued for acquisition of 1, 11, 740 Kanals and 4 Marlas of land covering 22 villages for the project, with total compensation on account of awards decided as Rs 85.48 crore.

“Of this amount, Rs 71.15 crore was released by the Punjab Government, while Rs 14.32 crore remains pending. Out of Rs 71.15 crore released by the Punjab Government and received by the Collector Thein/Ranjit Sagar Dam Project, Rs 50.51 crore (approx 71%) compensation has been disbursed so far among the affected families,” the DMRRR said.
Regarding delays in disbursing the complete amount, the Department cited non-submission of required documents, including necessary paperwork such as applications, bank account details, PAN cards, and Aadhar cards by the landowners.
Meanwhile, in order to ensure timely compensation to the rightful claimants, the department said, the District administration has issued multiple notices, urging landowners to furnish the requisite documents.
On the employment front, the Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (DMRRR) stated that 816 affected persons have been provided jobs so far under the Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) Policy agreed upon the Governments of Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab.
For the remaining 861 eligible families, it said, the District administration has taken up the matter with the concerned dam authorities to expedite their appointment process.
Citing Government order number 340-PW(Hyd) of 2018, the DMRRR further said that jobs to the oustees were to be provided by the Government of Punjab in accordance with the agreed policy of both States.
“The administration is committed to ensure that all the pending compensation and employment claims are settled at the earliest, bringing long-awaited relief to the displaced families affected by the Ranjit Sagar Dam project,” reiterated the Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction.
