Over Rs 4.30 lakh fine collected, 2 E-rickshaws seized for driving without valid documents

KATHUA, Nov 20: In a continued effort to enhance road safety, the Motor Vehicle Department, Lakhanpur conducted an intensive enforcement drive at Barwal Morh on the National Highway in Kathua and across the entire Nagri route. During this operation, 100 vehicles were challaned under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, and a fine of over Rs 4,30,000 was collected.
According to officials, the enforcement drive was carried out under the directions of RTO Lakhanpur, Surinder Paul Sharma. The team included ARTO Shammie Kumar, MVI Vikas Srivastava, and MVI Jatinder Singh Chib.
The team established multiple checkpoint nakas at Barwal Morh on the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway and at various points across the Nagri and Zaria areas of district Kathua.
During the drive, 380 vehicles were inspected, out of which 100 were found violating traffic norms and were subsequently challaned. A total fine of Rs 4.30 lakh was recovered through e-challans. In addition, two e-rickshaws were seized for operating without valid documents.
Sharing the details, RTO Lakhanpur, Surinder Paul Sharma stated that a large-scale checking drive has been launched against vehicles violating traffic norms. The teams examined buses, trucks, load carriers, two-wheelers, and other vehicles, and issued on-the-spot challans to offenders.
He issued a strict warning to violators, stating that any vehicle found plying on the road without valid documents will face strict legal action. He specifically cautioned e-rickshaw drivers that if any e-rickshaw is found operating on the National Highway, it will be seized on the spot, and strict action will be taken under the law.
He added that the department will not spare anyone found violating traffic rules.
