Out of 1100, only 350 sub-centres connected

Srinagar, Aug 9: As the process of providing piped water supply to all the households, hospitals and Anganwadi Centres across J&K picks up, there are just over 30 per cent of healthcare sub-centres that are currently connected with the piped water supply across Kashmir.
As per details available with Excelsior, there are over 1100 Sub-Centres functional across Kashmir Division falling under the control of the Health department, out of which, there were just over 350 such centres which had a facility of piped water supply.
As per details, the rest of over 750 healthcare sub-centres across Kashmir are without the piped water supply across Kashmir. The details of all such sub-centres were earlier sought by the Health Department for further transmission.
In this regard, as the Government activated the concerned department tasked with the job of ensuring piped water connection to all the hospitals and Anganwadi Centres under the Jal Jeevan Mission, all the Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) across Kashmir were earlier asked by the authorities to submit the details whether the sub-centres falling under their jurisdiction were having the facility of the piped water supply.
They were asked to submit the response with yes or no along with the details including the location of the sub-centres with or without the facility.
In response to the communication, only 350 sub-centres out of over 1100 operating across Kashmir stated that they were having the facility in place, while the rest replied in negative.
Officials told Excelsior that the details sought have been forwarded to the concerned department and the necessary measures are being taken by the concerned department to ensure that the piped water supply is provided to the centres that do not possess the facility as of now. They also said that the work of connecting the sub-centres that are lacking the facility has been taken up already.
Officials also said that they have been directed to meet the deadline of providing the piped water to every hospital, Anganwadi centre by August 15, 2021, and for that works have been expedited.
Also, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha earlier has set the August 2022 deadline for providing piped water to every household in the Union Territory of J&K.
As per official figures available, 93.86% of schools, 92.25% of Anganwadi centres and 24.41% of households in J&K have been connected with functional household tap connections to date.
It is also to be noted here that Srinagar and Ganderbal districts have recorded the universal coverage while as districts like Kathua, Udhampur, Ramban, Budgam, Rajouri, Kishtwar, Kulgam and Jammu are lagging behind. However, the work in these districts has also been expedited.
