
BSF jawan attains martyrdom, toll 6
*No ceasefire violations on LoC, IB

JAMMU, May 11: A BSF jawan who was injured in Pak shelling and firing in RS Pura sector on the International Border (IB) yesterday succumbed to his injuries today while no fresh ceasefire violations were reported from any part of IB or Line of Control (LoC) in the Jammu region since last midnight.

A large number of houses and shops were damaged in several areas on the LoC in Jammu and Rajouri districts. During last four days of shelling, over 200 houses and commercial establishments have been damaged in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch alone, the officials said, but added that detailed assessment is being undertaken by the authorities.
BSF constable Deepak Chimngakham, who was injured in Pakistan firing and shelling yesterday in RS Pura sector, attained martyrdom today taking toll of the bravehearts who sacrificed their lives for the nation in Pakistan shelling, firing and drone attacks to six.
BSF Sub Inspector Mohammad Imteyz was martyred in RS Pura sector yesterday while seven jawans were injured. Seven terrorists were eliminated by the BSF in Samba sector on the IB a day before when an infiltration attempt was thwarted.
“We salute the supreme sacrifice made by BSF braveheart Constable (GD) Deepak Chimngakham in the service of nation. He sustained fatal injuries during cross-border firing along the International Border in RS Pura area, district Jammu on May 10 and attained martyrdom on May 11,” the BSF said in a post on X.
“DG BSF and all ranks express their deepest condolences to the family, Wreath laying ceremony with full honours shall take place tomorrow at Frontier HQ Jammu, Paloura,” the post read.
Meanwhile, as per the officials, nearly 200 houses and commercial structures suffered damage from extensive to partial in Pakistan shelling during last four days.
Thirteen civilians lost their lives in Pakistan shelling in Poonch, three in Rajouri and one in RS Pura sector of Jammu district. Another civilian was killed in drone attack at Kheri in Raipur area of Jammu yesterday.
However, no civilian casualties were reported during shelling and firing by Pakistan overnight in Akhnoor, Pallanwalla, Khour, Sunderbani and Nowshera sectors. Pakistan violated ceasefire on the LoC in Jammu and Rajouri districts last night for over two hours even after announcement of ceasefire by India and Pakistan.
As per the officials, such a heavy damage to civilian houses and commercial establishments was never witnessed in past, which was seen during last four days.
Number of casualties like 16 in Rajouri and Poonch districts including JKAS officer, children, siblings and two religious preachers were also very rare.
Additional SP Poonch Mohan Sharma after assessing damage caused by shelling in Poonch town told the Excelsior that situation remained normal in Poonch today and people have started returning to the town after four days.
Sharma said the authorities are assessing damage caused to civilian houses and commercial structures.
There were reports that a number of Pakistan army personnel were killed or injured in retaliatory action by the Indian troops. A number of posts of the Pakistani troops on LoC across Poonch and Rajouri districts were decimated.
Meanwhile, most of the people who left their houses from forward areas in the wake of heavy shelling and firing by the Pakistani troops have started returning to homes after witnessing peace on the LoC and International Border. However, there were some families, who stayed back in the houses of their relatives or other places as they wanted to wait for another day or so before returning.
