Over 100 ‘divyangs’ benefitted at artificial limb camp

JAMMU, Nov 20: Above hundred ‘divyangs’ have been benefitted during first three days of 5-day long artificial limb camp presently running at Red Cross Sarai here.
The camp that began on November 18 has been organized by Viklang Chhatra Trust in collaboration with Regional Red Cross Society Jammu under the aegis of Bhagwan Mahavir Viklang Sahayata Samiti, Kota Rajasthan.
A spokesperson of the camp said that 41 artificial limb and 20 calipers were fitted to amputees and polio victims. Besides, 13 wheel chairs, 10 hand driven tricycles and 17 pairs of auxiliary crutches were also issued to the needy.
Latif Pandit of Sultan-ul- Arifeen Limb Centre Srinagar disclosed that physically challenged patients from all parts of the State are reporting for the fitment of limbs in the camp. Some beneficiaries of Kashmir valley also were given free limbs as per their requirement.
Deviki Nandan, who is leading a team of 12 technicians of BMVSS Kota Rajasthan informed that some wheel chairs and tricycles are available in the camp for free distribution to severely handicapped persons. The beneficiaries are advised to keep disability certificate and Aadhaar Card or any other genuine I-Card with them to get required prosthetic aid from the camp.
It is pertinent to mention here that most of the technicians of BMVSS Kota are themselves physically challenged and after availing the free fitment of artificial limbs at limb centres of BMVSS are now serving the ‘divyangs’. Many technicians have visited dozens of foreign countries for the fabrication of thousands of artificial limbs.
Satya Pal Saraf, organizer of VCT has appealed to cross section of the society to disseminate the information about the camp so that maximum numbers of amputees and polio victims are benefitted before the camp which is going to conclude on November 23.
