Over 1.5 lakh registered persons not getting pension

JAMMU, Mar 31: Over 1.5 lakh persons are not getting pension in Jammu and Kashmir despite being registered under Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS) and National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP).
This was revealed by the Minister for Social Welfare in the Legislative Assembly in response to the question of National Conference MLA Altaf Ahmad Wani.
Under ISSS, 55416 registered persons and 98963 registered persons under NSAP are not getting pension, he said, adding the matter regarding clearance of 98963 pending cases under NSAP was taken up with the Union Ministry of Rural Development on February 18, 2015.
However, the matter regarding clearance of 55416 pending cases is being taken up with the State Planning and Finance Department.
Responding to another question, the Minister said that 695 posts are lying vacant in the Social Welfare Department. About opening of Anganwadi Centers, he said that in accordance with the direction of Supreme Court, a proposal for opening of 9826 Anganwadi Centres was submitted to Government of India and during the year 2014-15, 1000 Anganwadi Centres were sanctioned and established.
“The Government of India has conveyed approval for establishment of 3361 Anganwadi Centres in the State and these centres would be established once the concurrence is received from the competent authority”, the Minister said.
