Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event commemorating B.R. Ambedkar’s legacy in drafting the Indian Constitution, he explained that the OSC category previously had a 2% reservation, which was raised to 4% by the Government. The recent increase to 8%, however, was decided by the Commission.
“The commission granted 8% reservation. The BJP did not make that decision. It is not possible,” he said. He further highlighted the significance of the BJP-led Government’s move to grant constitutional status to the OBC commission, calling it a significant achievement under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
Discussing the event, he said, “The Constitution of India was finalized on November 26, which is why Narendra Modi decided to celebrate it as Samvidhan Divas from November 26 to January 26. This celebration honors the hard work of B.R. Ambedkar and his team in drafting the Constitution.”
On the demand for rationalizing the reservation policy, he said the government had formed a committee to address the issue. “Let the committee present its report and the government will decide accordingly,” he said.
He also praised the BJP government for ushering in development in Jammu and Kashmir post-2019. “After 2019, infrastructure projects worth Rs. 5,000 crore are underway. Four corridors are being constructed in Jammu and Kashmir. Ring roads are being built in both Jammu and Kashmir, and a direct train will reach Kashmir this month. No one else has achieved this,” he said.
