Oppn protests on Godse issue; forces adjournment in Lok Sabha

NEW DELHI : The Lok Sabha was today rocked over the reported honour to Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse with the Opposition raising slogans and forcing Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to adjourn the House for 10 minutes till 1125 hrs.

As soon as the Speaker called for Question Hour, Opposition members, including Jyotiraditya Scinda(Congress) and Saugata Roy(Trinamool Congress) were on their feet pressing up for the adjournment notice for suspension of the Question Hour and taking up their issue for immediate discussion in the House.

The treasury benches, however, opposed their move saying the Opposition was in the habit of demanding suspension of the Question Hour every day and this was not acceptable.   Ms Mahajan said she had received the notice over the issue that if important but not warrants for the suspension of the scheduled business.

Leader of the Congress Mallikarjun Kharge said, ‘This is not patriotic approach. This is insult of whole of the nation.’

Meanwhile, the Opposition proceeded into the well raising slogans, ‘Hey Ram; Hey Ram; Gandhi ke katil of mila samman’,(Oh God, Gandhi’s assassin is being honoured).   Amid slogan shouting, the Speaker took up the the Question Hour.

This continued for almost 15 minutes and the proceedings were adjourned for 10 minutes till 1125 hrs.   The Congress also held a sit-in outside the House in Parliament complex over the issue.
