JAMMU, May 18: The Ophthalmology Department of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu observed ‘Retinoblastoma Week’ by holding special sessions in the OPD and Wards of the Department to guide the patients and their attendants, besides other visitors, about the diseases.
The week will conclude tomorrow.
Head of Department Ophthalmology, Dr Dinesh Gupta while briefing patients and their attendants, said: “Retinoblastoma is the most common potentially fatal childhood ocular tumor, which, if untreated, has 100 per cent mortality, but, if timely recognized and with appropriate treatment, results in vision and life salvage.
“Early diagnosis through awareness of white pupil was the motto of Retinoblastoma Week, 2018,’’ Dr Gupta said and called for awareness among the people about the diseases, which was fully curable but added that it was for the people to get it examine well in time and approach the Ophthalmology Department of the Government Medical College, Jammu.
He called upon the people, who were briefed during the week, to spread awareness among the people on the disease. He added that the Ophthalmology Department of the Government Medical College Jammu will also hold awareness camps at different places on the disease.
