Operations of two trains restored; shuttle services between Jammu, Katra started

68 trains to remain cancelled, mostly till ending Sept

JAMMU, Sept 1: Even as normal rail traffic remained suspended for the seventh consecutive day, Northern Railway today announced restoration of operations of Sampark Kranti and Sealdah Express trains besides starting a shuttle service between Jammu and Katra to facilitate the movement of locals and passengers to some extent.

According to an official spokesperson of Northern Railway, Sampark Kranti train 12445 (New Delhi-Katra) and 12446 ( Katra-New Delhi) has been fully restored from today (September 1, 2025) while Sealdah Express 13151 (KOAA-JAT EXP ) and 13152 (JAT-KOAA EXP) will be fully restored from tomorrow (September 2, 2025).
Though not officially announced, sources said that Puja Express between Jammu and Ajmer is also likely to be restored soon.
Today, the Northern Railways also started a shuttle service between Jammu and Katra to facilitate the movement of local passengers.
Four trains have been inducted in the Jammu-Katra section for the shuttle service that will operate from September 1 to 15, official said.
The shuttle service has been started between Jammu and Katra to facilitate the movement of daily passengers and stranded persons besides labourers engaged in restoration work.
Pertinent to mention that rail traffic has remained suspended in the Jammu railway division for the past one week due to misalignment and breaches at multiple locations in the Pathankot-Jammu section following heavy rains and flash floods on August 26.
Over 50 trains were cancelled on Monday. However, Railways has been running special trains to ferry stranded passengers to their destinations from Jammu over the past four days. A total of 5,784 stranded passengers have been ferried so far in seven trains from Jammu for their onward journey.
Meanwhile, the Northern Railway today announced cancellation of 68 trains to and from Jammu for the next couple of days and most of them till ending of this month, thus making it clear that normal rail traffic will not get restored till October 2025.
As per an official statement, 68 trains to and from Jammu will remain cancelled in view of traffic suspended in Kathua-Madhopur Downline due to misalignment on Bridge-17.
Scheduled frequency of these cancelled trains was daily, weekly, bi-weekly and fortnightly. Except a few, all these trains will remain cancelled by the end of ongoing month.
While the Vande Bharat train between New Delhi-Katra and vice-versa (22439 and 22440) will remain cancelled till September 30, 2025, the other Vande Bharat train between New Delhi-Katra and vice-versa (22477 and 22478) will remain cancelled till September 6, 2025.
