Operation Sindoor: A new Normal in Modern Warfare

Dr Sudershan Kumar
The dastardly act of killing 26 innocent tourists by Pak backed terrorists at Baisaran valley in the meadows of Phalagam has endorsed and once again, unveiled the true heinous face of terrorism. In this deadly terror attack, two foreigners, one IB and one naval officer were also shot dead from point blank range. Immediately after hearing the news of gruesome killings by terrorists at the behest of Pak military and Deep State, the India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut shot his official visit in Saudi Arabia and returned to Delhi. Driven by anger and patriotism, our prime minister roared “Blood of every Indian is boiling, justice would be served, perpetrators, conspirators of terror act would be served with harshest punishment”. Subsequent to this gruesome murder of innocent tourists by Pak based terrorists, global condemnation was echoed. As a follow up to this, the Indian government announced a number of punitive measures against rogue nation Pakistan. This also included the suspension of treaty signed between the then Prime Minister of India Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru and Field Marshal of Pakistan, Mohd Ayub Khan in the year 1960. This unexpected bold decision by Government of India has rattled the Pakistani Government to the extent that one of its Ministers Hanif Abhasi openly threatened India with nuclear retaliation and also warned India. He vehemently advocated about Pakistan’s arsenal including Ghauri, Shaeen, and Ghaznavi along with 130 nuclear war heads using which intimidated India. This bizarre statement coming from the mouth of one of a person, holding responsible position in Pakistan government is neither desirable nor expected in any civilized society. This also reflects the insanity of the leadership of Pakistan and being, dumb foundedly ignorant of the deadly effects of use of nuclear weapons as these would be detrimental for its own country. Surprisingly, there are many other leaders, who are making statements on similar lines. This may be to boost sagging morale of Pak army, Deep State and the common masses. who are in distress due to Pakistani Government’s utter failure in addressing the basic issues in multiple sectors. Nothing withstanding their “NUCLEAR BLACK MAIL” Indian Armed Forces launched “Operation Sindoor on 7th May at wee hours that is from 0105hrs to 0125 hrs to destroy the terror infra of LeT ,JeM, and HM in Pak occupied Jammu Kashmir. (POJK) and deep inside Pakistan.. But before actually delving into the details of Operation Sindoor, it is imperative and indispensable to know about the Operation Sindoor, its approach towards achieving objectives, and analysis for new normal for future warfare. Sindoor or Sindura is a traditional Vermilian red or orange red or maroon cosmetic powder from south Asia ,usually worn by married women along the part of their hair line. In Hindu community, the Sindoor is considered auspicious and is a visual marker of martial status of a woman, ceasing to wear it usually implies widowhood. The Government of India’s choice of the name Operation Sindoor signaled its intention to avenge the widowed women. On Social media Indian Army announced the strikes with stark image that included the jar of spilled Sindoor which resembled blood. Under Operation, Sindoor Indian Armed Forces had selected the nine targets. These were Bahawalpur 100km deep inside Pakistan ,Muridke, 30 km inside Pakistan,Gulpur35 km inside POJK, Sawai Camp 30km in POJK, Syedna Bilal camp in POJK, Abbas camp Kotli, Barnala camp 10 km inside POJK Sarjal camp Narwal and Mehmona joya camp near Sialkot . In a very swift and precise move, the valiant armed forces not only razed the infrastructure to ground but also eliminated nearly 100 terrorists including five of their top commanders. Moreso, the videos of funeral procession of slain terrorists surfaced at social media clearly showed the coffin of slain terrorists wrapped in Pakistani national flags along with senior Pak army officers seen standing by the side of coffin. This makes evident, the complete collusion of Paki Army its ISI and deep state with dreaded terrorists. This should be an eye opener to world media, International bodies and the countries which have double standards on terrorism in south Asia. The severe punch by IAF and IA to terrorists, their Akas that too deep inside Pakistani soil without crossing the border rattled Pak army to the extent that it started shelling from LOC and IB to various places of worships, civilian houses and army installations. Besides the enemy’s attack by swarm of drones(200-400 in number) along with loitering ammunition and long range missile to hit our vital civil and army infrastructure both at IB and International border proved utter failures as our Air Defence system viz S-400,Akash Missiles, Anti drone systems & Akashteer (an indigenous Iron Dome) intercepted and destroyed enemy drones and missiles in mid way beyond their anticipation and imagination.. Besides enemy also resorted to heavy artillery fire from LOC and IB and targeted our border towns using long range artillery guns. This see saw battle between India and Pakistan forces continued for the four days till Pak DGMO approached for ceasefire to its counterpart in India. The reasons for Pak DGMO’s request to Indian counter part were the following: First, the foremost in four days conflict the Pakistani Military and Air Force suffered heavy losses. Eleven PAF bases were extensively damaged using indigenous technologies.. Notably among them were Noor Khan, Rafiqui, Muridke Sukkur, Sialkote Pasur, Chunian, Sargodha Skaru, Bholari, and Jackobabad. Even their hardened structure also suffered heavy damage. Therefore, further continuation of air battle would have been disastrous for Pakistani Air Force. The IAF would have gained complete superiority over them. Second, there are unconfirmed reports of radioactivity leak at the Pak nuclear storage facility at Kirana Hills near Sargodha air base. If these reports are true, then this may also be the reason for Pak leadership for rushing desperately to seek help from USA and China. Although there is no official confirmation or denial from either side in this regard but pictures of USA planes are available on social media platform .Thirdly, utter failure of Ballistic Missile Defence supplied by China, and other countries, set and endorsed the might of India’s supremacy. This was further compounded and acknowledged by the Pakistan defence minister publicly about the failure of their equipment during combat operation. This has also raised serious concerns of quality of defence equipment supplied to Pakistan by China and other countries.
Fourth, the internal unrest in Pakistan was also the cause of concern in Pakistan. These stated facts probably forced Pak DGMO to beg before India agreeing for ceasefire . Indian DGMO accepted the request as per India’s terms and conditions on 10th May at 1530hrs. “It is ironic and bewildering that the people of Pakistan celebrated their defeat in 5th consecutive conflict with India. A country, unmatched for its celebration of an illusive victory based on fake narratives. Where as in the present era of technology the fact checks can be made through Satellite Imagery”. Needless to mention here that. Military goal, Political goal and Psychological goal, of Operation Sindoor were fully met. One of the defining features of Operation Sindoor was its extensive use of unmanned systems-drones, robotic surveillance and AI assisted targets. These tools enabled surgical strikes with minimal collateral damage. Moreover Operation heavily relied on real time intelligence satellite imaginary and electronic warfare proving that dominance in the information domain is now as critical as battle strength. The communication of enemy was crippled before physical operation began thereby show casing a multi dimensional approach that blends military and non-military tools. Psychological operations also played a crucial role. By controlling the narratives on social media and releasing carefully crafted messages, it was made sure that the enemy was demoralized.
This reflects the growing role of information war fare and perfection management in modern warfare. The author is of the opinion that Operation Sindoor indeed redefined the modern warfare. It established, a precedence, where wars are won not just by fire power but by intelligence ,speed, digital supremacy and psychological influence. As militaries world wide study the operation it will be clear that future conflicts will be less about territory and more about control of mind data and net work.Operation Sindoor may very well be a blue print for the wars of tomorrow. The author dedicates this article to the valour of armed forces for changing the dynamic of modern war through complete command on technology. The commitment of armed forces towards nation’s sovereignty and complete command on advanced technologies have once again proved not only the nexus of Pak,China and Turkey but also to the whole world that mighty Indian armed forces has set new normal for future wars through Operation Sindoor.
