Online schooling

Sir,
With the emergence of Covid-19 pandemic it has become mandatory to provide education at home. This has increased pressure on parents to keep their children safe but simultaneously providing them best education facility. What about those who cannot afford internet or smartphones and computers? Home teaching needs technological apparatus and internet which is not available to many students in our country. Government schools used to provide education and food to economically weaker sections. Now, it seems like corona virus has not attacked only our immune systems but also the backbone of our education system. Even if all the facilities are being provided to each and every student then also the traditional teaching will always win the race against self-study at home.
In home teaching, it is very hard to regularize the study pattern with strict discipline. Sometimes, the whole activity seems to be non-serious. Home teaching can be utilized for the revision of lessons but not for learning new things. Traditional way of teaching is unique because it not only teaches bookish knowledge but enlightenes student with great knowledge about life. Mother can be a good guide but she cannot be a harsh teacher. Students have an element of fear in their minds for school teachers but home teaching generally occurs online and there have been instances of mismanagement and mischievous behavior by students. In addition to this, schools provide different periods on extracurricular activities which refresh the kid’s brain. Activities like sports, exercise, skating, painting helps in brain development.
Indoor teaching cannot give student an idea about real life and how to handle problems with patience. Environmental ecology, geosciences, climate change, weather, animal behavior and many more subjects cannot be understood by simply sitting inside and reading a book. All these subjects need observation around the surrounding. Also, online classes makes child lethargic and affects eye sight to a great extent due to increased screen time. But studying at home and attending online classes is now a part of normalizing life with Covid-19. Concluding all the arguments about studying at home, we need better strategies for our education system through online mode which not only educate the coming generation but also help in their personality development especially for rural and underprivileged children of our country.
