One yr RI to store-keeper in corruption case

JAMMU, June 10: Special Judge Anticorruption CBI cases, Kaneez Fatima today awarded one-year imprisonment and fine of Rs 20,000 to Roop Singh, the then store-keeper in Garrison Engineering Wing, after 18 years long investigation and trial.
According to the CBI case, on July 31, 1997 Roop Singh along with other officials entered into criminal conspiracy and misappropriated 13988.77 Kgs of iron, 29 kilograms of cooper and 2 kilograms of brass scrap worth Rs 73043, Accordingly, a case was registered and after completion of investigation challan was presented.
After hearing Special PP KS Pathania appearing for the CBI, Special Judge Anticorruption observed, “accused is found guilty of offence under Section 409 RPC and 5(2) read with Section 5(1) (d) of J&K PC Act”.
Accordingly, Court awarded one year rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 20,000.
