JAMMU, Mar 7: The ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal of the Union Government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a transformative reform that aims to synchronize Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections across the country. This initiative is expected to bring political stability, reduce electoral expenses and enhance governance efficiency.
This was stated by Sat Sharma, president, Jammu and Kashmir BJP while addressing a massive gathering of the senior functionaries of different social organizations of ward numbers 47 and 48 of Bahu Assembly segment, in a programme organized by Bahu Fort Development Committee Trust at Bahu Fort, Jammu. Sat graced the occasion as chief guest.
The programme organized by Chairman of the committee Rajeev Charak, vice Chairman Advocate Ishant Gupta and vice president Hardesh Khokhar, was aimed at highlighting the significance of holding simultaneous elections at different levels across the country.
Sat Sharma said that India, the world’s largest democracy, holds elections frequently at different levels-Lok Sabha and State Assemblies. This continuous cycle of elections disrupts governance, increases administrative costs, and diverts resources from development work.
He said that the frequent elections require significant financial and human resources. The Election Commission, security forces, and Government machinery are mobilized repeatedly, leading to high expenditure. Holding elections simultaneously would drastically cut down costs.
Priya Sethi, NEM and former Minister, said that a single election cycle would ensure better utilization of resources for national security and law enforcement. She said that a single election across the country will encourage higher voter participation, leading to a more representative democracy.
The key speaker, Rajeev Gupta CA, also convenor, ‘One Nation, One Election’ campaign, said that a single election would prove to be a path to stability and development and the people should understand that repeated elections are not healthy for a country with population of 140 crore people.
Vivek Patyal, vice president, Saryara Biradadri presented vote of thanks.
