JAMMU, July 28: The death toll in the tragic accident at Samba today went up to 17 with one more victim succumbing to injuries while as civil administration made all arrangements to shift dead bodies to their home towns in Uttar Pradesh, Kolkata, Madhya Pradesh and New Delhi.
An official spokesman said that driver of the ill-fated vehicle namely Balbir, son of Hans Raj of Raipur Camp, Samba, succumbed to injuries in the Government Medical College and Hospital today. With his death, the toll in the accident has risen to 17.
Meanwhile, civil administration on the directions of Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Pardeep Gupta, made all the arrangements to shift dead bodies to their native places.
Mr Gupta, who along with Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu Zone, Dilbagh Singh, visited the Government Medical College and Hospital yesterday morning, enquired about the health of all the injured and passed necessary directions to the hospital administration to ensure all possible Medicare to the injured.
On the instruction of Divisional Commissioner, all the dead bodies were properly embalmed and kept in coffins before being shifted to home towns in a vehicle arranged by the Deputy Commissioner Samba, Mubarak Singh and SSP Samba, Israr Khan on payment of requisite transportation charges.
Meanwhile, SSP Samba, Israr Khan, who along with DC Mubarak Singh, personally supervised the rescue operation on the midnight of July 26, said that a case has been registered under Sections 279/337/304-A/109 RPC at Samba Police Station against Dinesh Acharaya, son of Salva Durrie of Noida (President of Shiv Shakti Jan Sewa Sanstha, New Delhi) and Anil Kumar Goel, son of Roshan Lal of Noida UP (officer bearer of Shiv Shakti Jan Sewa Sanstha, New Delhi).
The president, as per the injured persons, forced them to travel in the goods loaded vehicle instead of providing them a separate and proper transport facility, the SSP said, adding both Dinesh Acharaya and Anil Kumar Goel have been taken into custody.
He said that though on the directions of DC Samba, local unit of Army also reached the spot yet by that time Police and locals had completed the task.
