One killed, three injured as bus hits load carrier at Supwal

SAMBA, July 2: One person died and three others sustained injuries in an early morning road accident near Supwal on the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway today.
The accident occurred around 4 AM when a high-speed bus travelling from Delhi to Jammu rammed into a Mahindra load carrier that was parked on the roadside.
The load carrier was carrying chickens, and its co-driver had stepped out for a toilet break when the incident took place.

The bus hit the stationary vehicle from behind and dragged it for several metres, crushing it under the front wheels.
The driver of the Mahindra vehicle, identified as Mohammad Shafi, son of Abdul Aziz of Kulgam, Kashmir, was trapped in the wreckage and died on-the-spot. It took several hours for the rescue team to recover his body.
Three others, including the bus driver, were injured and shifted to AIIMS Vijaypur for treatment. They have been identified as Ravi Kumar (35), son of Randhir Singh from Mohan Nagar, Sonipat, Haryana; Zakir Hussain (33), son of Bashir Ali from Assam; and Bittu Singh (22), son of Sulkhan from Bagh-e-Bahu, Jammu.
Taking cognisance of the matter, police have registered a case under the relevant sections of the law and started further investigation into the matter.
The body of the deceased has also been handed over to his family after post-mortem at District Hospital Samba.
