One killed, 6 hurt in blast

JAMMU, July 27: A labourer was killed and six others injured when a live mortar shell exploded at forward village of Jabowal along the International Border in Arnia sector this morning.
The labourers were working in the fields when they fiddled with the shell, which went off.
SP Headquarters Romesh Kotwal said nearly 20 live mortar shells had been defused by the Army and BSF Bomb Disposal Squads after ceasefire violations by the Pakistani Rangers in the month of June.
However, it was an unidentified shell, which might have stuck into the land and exploded when the labourers were working in the fields of a local villager, Ram Paul, he said.
One of the labourers was killed on spot while six others were injured. Police teams immediately rushed to the spot and shifted dead and injured to Arnia hospital from where the injured were referred to the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu.
The dead labourer has been identified as Bittu Mandal son of Thathal Mandal R/o Bihar.
The injured included Bablu son of Hari Ram, Bhajan Lal son of Reet Lal, Pardeep Lal son of Thathal Mandal,  Kirtyam son of Habbu Lal, Mukesh Kumar son of Sadanand  and Chandan Mandal son of Sadanand, all residents of Bihar.
Police have registered a case and started investigations.
