One killed, 19 hurt in mishap

JAMMU, Feb 14: An elderly person was killed, while 19 others were injured, when the mini-bus they were traveling in turned turtle on road in Shiba area, falling under the jurisdiction of Nagrota police station.
The ill-fated mini-bus bearing registration number JK02BD-6902 was on its way to Nagrota from Bambyal, when it met with accident at Shiba, Nagrota due to the negligence of the driver.
The driver of over-speeding mini-bus failed to negotiate sharp curve resulting into vehicle turning turtle on the road and causing grievous injuries to all its occupants.
On getting information, locals and police team from Nagrota police station headed by SHO Parvez Sajjad rushed to the spot and started rescue operation. All the injured were rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in police and other vehicles, where doctors declared 70-year-old Ghulam Hassan, son of Ahmed Abdullah of Anatnag as brought dead.
The body of the deceased was handed over to family members for last rites after completing legal formalities.
The injured have been identified as Meena Devi, wife of Tara Chand, Darshan Singh, son of Sher Singh, Sunil Dutt, son of Tara Chand, Sukh Dev, son of Bua Ditta, Sajad Ahmed, son of Ghulam Qadir, Rimpy, daughter of Madan Lal, Priyanka, daughter of Shiv Kumar, Akhter, son of Shan Mohammad, Deena Bibi, wife of Manzoor Ahmed, Baldev Raj, son of Bishwa Nath, Suraj Parkash, son of Munshi Ram, Rahul Verma, son of Diwan Chand, Mohammad Din, son of Jamal Din, Joginder Kumar, son of Pada Ram, Sher Ali, son of Rehmat Ali, Ajay Kumar, son of Sat Pal, Rajesh Kumar, son of Kartar Chand, Balbir Singh, son of Joginder Nath and Sant Ram, son of Prabhu Dayal, all residents of Bambyal, Nagrota.
A case under relevant Section has been registered at Nagrota police station and manhunt has been launched to arrest the accused driver, who fled from the spot after the incident.
