UDHAMPUR, Aug 7: Basantgarh Police today seized skin of two leopards and arrested one person.
Police sources said that on the basis of specific information about some persons illegally possessing skin of two leopards, Basantgarh Police headed by SHO Inspector Davinder Singh laid a trap at Top Shivgali and accordingly arrested one Chanchal Kumar, son of Mansa Ram of Dudu.
From the possession of Chanchal Kumar, Police recovered skin of two leopards, which were killed by Chanchal Kumar with the assistance of some persons during last winter. They were planning to sell the leopard skin when police laid a trap.
A case FIR No.21/2012 under Section 43/51 Wildlife Protection Act and 6 Forest Act has been registered against Chanchal Kumar. Further investigation into the case was going on and more arrests were likely.
Basantgarh Police made the seizure of skin of two leopards under the supervision of SSP Udhampur, Ashkoor Wani and SDPO Ramnagar, Virender Bhat.
