One held with 120 rolls of banned nylon thread

JAMMU, Aug 6: One individual was arrested by police with 120 rolls of banned nylon thread in Pacca Danga area here today.
During naka checking by a team of Pacca Danga Police Station led by SHO concerned, Inspector Rakesh Singh Jamwal, a vehicle (JK0CT-5533) was intercepted in the jurisdiction of Pacca Danga Police Station, a police official said.
On seeing the police, the driver of the vehicle, identified as Mahesh Kumar of Janipur Colony, fled the spot, abandoning his vehicle, he said, adding that the co-passenger, identified as Varun Raina of House number 11, Karan Nagar, Jammu, was however, arrested on-the-spot.
A total of 120 rolls of banned nylon thread were recovered from the vehicle, he said.
Accordingly, the police official said, a case FIR number 89/2025 under section 223 of the BNS was registered at Police Station Pacca Danga and further investigation taken up.
Pertinently, the use of nylon thread, also known as “Gattu” or “Chinese Manja” is strictly prohibited by the District Magistrate Jammu.
As such, police have warned the public to refrain from selling, purchasing, or using such hazardous material.
“Strict legal action will be taken against those using the material in violation of law, endangering human and bird lives,” warned a police statement.
