HANDWARA, Dec 10: Handwara Police have detained a notorious dug peddler under Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988 (PIT NDPS).
The accused, namely Manzoor Ahmad Shah, son of Saif Ud Deen Shah, a resident of Gund Moomin, was key member of a drug trafficking syndicate actively involved in pushing youth towards substance abuse. Two FIRs under NDPS Act were registered against him at Police Station Kupwara and Police Station Villgam.
Despite registration of FIRs, the accused continued his illegal activities, prompting the initiation of detention proceedings under PIT NDPS. After a detention warrant under Section 3 of the PIT NDPS Act was received, Police arrested the accused
Sharing the details, SSP Handwara, Mushtaq Choudhary said that strict action will continue against those involved in such activities, to safeguard the future of the youth and ensure a drug-free society.
