JAMMU, Feb 20: A one-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme and Medical Student Research Exchange was organized by the Student Research and Development Council (SRDC) at Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, with active participation from medical students and faculty from several institutions across Jammu and Kashmir.
During the academic event, MBBS students of GMC Jammu delivered presentations on key aspects of research methodology, including formulation of research questions, randomised clinical trials, analytical study designs, placebo and blinding in research, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, and study protocol writing.
Detailed discussions were also held on research requirements for Short-Term Studentship (STS) projects under the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), as well as on research components relevant to competitive examinations such as USMLE and PLAB.
The programme witnessed participation from students of AIIMS Jammu, ASCOMS Jammu, GMC Doda, GMC Udhampur, GMC Kathua, GMC Rajouri and Government Ayurvedic College Akhnoor. The interactive sessions and brainstorming exercises provided a common platform for young researchers to exchange ideas and enhance their understanding of scientific research.
The SRDC, constituted in 2023, aims to inculcate a research-oriented culture among medical students at an early stage of their careers. Since its formation, the council has organized national conferences, CMEs on research methodology and debate sessions, leading to a significant increase in the number of students securing ICMR STS research projects.
The council is chaired by Professor Dr Vishal R Tandon and functions under the direct supervision of the Principal and Dean of GMC Jammu.
