JAMMU, Dec 6: To highlight a series of long-pending civic concerns affecting residents of Old Janipur and adjoining localities, Old Janipur Civil Society Action Committee held a review meeting here today.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Kulwant Singh Sambyal.
Members demanded immediate installation of public toilets, adequate security arrangements, flood lights, and CCTV cameras at Chowk High Court Road where the National Flag installation work is underway.
They also sought shaded seating facilities to make the spot more visitor-friendly.
A major concern raised was the renovation of the Community Hall at Shant Nagar and the blacktopping of inner lanes, many of which are in a dilapidated condition.
The Committee also highlighted the need to repair non-functional street lights, prune overgrown trees near JDA Park and carry out thorough sanitization drives.
Residents of Mohalla Ramvihar voiced serious concern over the poor condition of the JDA Park, citing damaged bathrooms, unmaintained lawns, lack of a watchman and gardener and absence of CCTV surveillance. They also complained about frequent sports activities in the park that disturb nearby households.
Long-pending civic issues such as the construction of new drains, repair of coolers and restoration of street lights in Pandoka Colony, Indira Vihar, Hari Nagar, Indira Colony, Kabir Nagar and Door Darshan Lane were also discussed.
The Civil Society urged the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) and Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) to intervene and direct concerned subordinates to act promptly on the grievances.
The meeting was attended by Harnam Singh, Vinod Kohli, Butti Ram, Vidya Bhushan, Tara Chand, P L Sharma, Ashwani Sharma and several other members of the locality.
