KATHUA, July 1: A hardcore criminal-cum-Over Ground Worker (OGW) was booked under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) in Malhar area of Kathua district today and lodged in District Jail Udhampur.
Shamash Din Rather of Lohai, tehsil Lohai Malhar, district Kathua, was booked under PSA for his involvement in various criminal and anti-national activities, a police official said.
According to him, the accused was a habitual offender and an OGW, and was facing multiple FIRs at Police Station Malhar.
“Despite facing multiple FIRs, he was not mending his ways, thereby posing a threat to the peace in the area with his criminal/anti-national activities,” he said.
In order to curb his activities and maintain public order in the area, a dossier was prepared against the accused and forwarded to the District Magistrate Kathua for detention under the PSA, he said.
Accordingly, the DM Kathua issued a detention warrant against the accused, which was executed today with the arrest of the accused, he said.
After the arrest, the police official said that the accused was lodged in District Jail Udhampur.
The arrest was made by a team of Police Station Malhar supervised by DySP PC Malhar, Sunil Kumar, and incharge SHO Malhar, PSI Arun Kumar Shan, added the police official.
