OBC Welfare Forum discusses demands

JAMMU, Aug 11: An extra ordinary meeting of all Jammu and Kashmir OBC’s Welfare Forum was convened on August 7 under the chairmanship of its president Ghulam Hassan Sheer Gojrie at its Headquarter, Rambagh, Srinagar. Among others who spoke on the occasion were Bashir Ahmad senior vice president, M.S.Shama (Budgam) general secretary and district presidents of all the districts. Also, some prominent OBC leaders from Jammu division participated in the meeting.
The Forum demanded the UT Government for implementation of 27% reservation for OBC’s on the analogy of reservation policy under implementation in the Centre and other States as provided in the constitution of the country which were denied to the OBC’s by previous regimes at the UT level. The other Issues which were discussed and where immediate action was sought included Advisory Board for the Welfare and Development of OBCs be made fully functional, its vacancies shall be filled immediately and its recommendations shall be made binding upon the Government.
It further demanded hostels for OBC students shall be constructed at all district Headquarters, OBC Bhawans shall be constructed at Srinagar and Jammu. there shall be reservation of OBC’s in Panchayats, Urban Local Bodies and State Legislature, there shall be reservation for OBC’s in the UT Industrial Policy, plots for landless OBC’s shall be provided to construct the Awas Units, inclusion of pending castes in the UT and central list of OBC’s.
