SRINAGAR, Sept 26: National Youth Corps (NYC) volunteers today threatened to gherao the Assembly in support of their demands during the forthcoming session of the Legislature starting from October 1.
Addressing a press conference here today, Mudasir Hassan, President National Youth Corps Volunteers Association (NYCVA) said that the State Government should absorb the NYC volunteers as employees in the different departments where they are working as supporting staff over the past two years.
“Despite repeated promises the State Government has not done enough so as to adjust us in the departments. We have decided to intensify our struggle and as such we would gherao the Assembly during the upcoming session of the Legislature. Our future is at stake and as such we would not hold back in raising our just and genuine demands,” said Mudasir.
Mudasir said that the protests of the volunteers may take shape of an agitation if the State Government fails to fulfill their demands by September 30. He said despite assurances by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Youth Services Minister R S Chib of solving their problems there is no light at the end of the tunnel for the NYC volunteers.
Mudasir said that the State Government should come out with a prescribed policy for absorption of the NYC volunteers. He said that the monthly honorarium of the volunteers should be converted into salary. He also expressed concern over the termination letters handed over to the volunteers in some districts before the completion of their contract.
