NSO conducts training camp on National Household Income Survey in Jammu

JAMMU, Mar 19: National Statistics Office (NSO), Field Operations Division, Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, today commenced a two-day Regional Training Camp in Jammu to strengthen capacity for the upcoming National Household Income Survey (NHIS).
The training programme, being held from March 19 to 20, aims to equip officials with the methodology, scope and significance of the survey, which is designed to generate reliable data on income patterns and living conditions across the country. The initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing evidence-based policy formulation and improving the quality of official statistics.
The camp is being conducted under the chairmanship of Deputy Director General P Palanivel, with technical sessions led by Senior Statistical Officer Raju Kumar. The programme is supervised by Swaran Lal, Assistant Director and Head of Office, NSO (FOD), Regional Office Jammu.
During the inaugural session, speakers highlighted the critical role of the NHIS in understanding income distribution and its linkage with economic activity, labour returns and social structures. Officials underlined that the survey will help policymakers assess the need for both universal and targeted welfare interventions, while also examining how income levels influence household well-being and access to essential goods and services.
Key addresses were delivered by senior NSO officials, including Additional Director General Kishore Kumar, who provided a comprehensive overview of the survey’s objectives, coverage and operational framework. P Palanivel also emphasized the importance of rigorous data collection and urged participants to gain in-depth insights into field processes.
The training camp has drawn participation from more than 45 officials, primarily from the Regional Office Jammu and Sub-Regional Office Udhampur.
The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Vijay Ladha, Assistant Director, SRO Udhampur.
