NSF demands time-bound mechanism in passport issuance, PCC

JAMMU, Feb 3: Varinderjeet Singh, Chairman of the National Sikh Front (NSF) today highlighted widespread delays in passport issuance and Police Clearance Certificates (PCC) by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Jammu and Kashmir Police.
In a press statement issued, Varinderjeet Singh lambasted the prevailing inefficiencies in CID that have inflicted undue hardship on residents, particularly students and senior citizens in Jammu province.
Singh pointed out that despite fulfilling all requisite formalities, many individuals have been left in limbo due to protracted police enquiries.
“I have personally interacted with several students and elderly persons who applied for passports to reunite with family abroad or attend crucial functions, only to miss out because of these inexcusable delays,” he said.
“In several instances, deposited fees for educational opportunities have lapsed, while parents have been unable to meet their children on time, exacerbating emotional and financial distress. In some cases, these delays stretch beyond a year without any reasons being cited to the applicants, leaving them in a state of uncertainty and frustration,” said Variniderjeet Singh.
The NSF chief appealed for immediate reforms to transform passport and PCC services into time-bound operations, akin to other streamlined public services in the Union Territory.
“Officials must be held responsible and accountable for any lapses, with clear timelines enforced to prevent arbitrary delays,” he demanded.
