JAMMU, Sept 3: Expressing support with the distressed Naib-Tehsildar aspirants of Jammu region over the inclusion of Urdu language in the written test, several NPSU activists staged a protest demonstration outside the Jammu University, here today.
Led by NPSU president Thakur Virender Singh, the protesters raised slogans against the State Government for its alleged discriminatory attitude towards the Jammu youth. They also torched an effigy of the State Government.
While addressing the protesters, Virender Singh recalled that the Services Selection Board had earlier rolled out stipulated pattern of syllabus for the 3 hour Objective Type written test of 180 marks in English, which was scheduled to be held in September this year. However, SSB later issued a draconian notice introducing a new syllabus for the 3 hour Objective/ Descriptive written test of 160 marks which included ‘Descriptive Urdu language’ with a weightage of 30 marks, he added.
Mr Singh maintained that the obnoxious criteria adopted by the board for the written test would straight away divest them of an equal opportunity in the competition as this would directly benefit the aspirants of Kashmir division since they are proficient in ‘Urdu’ and on the contrary the applicants from Jammu region are not versed with the aforesaid language. “NPSU smells some rooted conspiracy to keep away the Jammu aspirants from the healthy competition,” he said and termed the new criteria as irrational, biased and unethical in nature.
Thakur Virender Singh said that new criteria should be revoked without any delay otherwise NPSU shall intensify the stir.
