NEW DELHI, Feb 7: The activists of J&K National Panthers Party (NPP) today held a massive demonstration at Jantar Mantar here, seeking the dissolution of J&K Assembly followed by fresh elections.
The protestors led by chairman of the party Harshdev Singh and Balwant Singh Mankotia State president of the party, in presence of Prof Bhim Singh chief patron of the NPP, carrying flags and placards marched towards the Parliament House but were intercepted by Parliament Street Police and restrained from proceeding further. They raised slogans against Central Govt and BJP and were addressed by senior party leaders.
Speaking on the occasion, Harshdev Singh said that the Governor Rule has completed one month in the J&K State with none of the political parties or alliances coming forth to claim the formation of the Govt. He said that imposition of Governor Rule which though became a necessity due to the death of the incumbent Chief Minister, could not be prolonged and continued further at the behest of certain vested political interests.
He said that if the various political parties were not able to cobble up the magic figure required for absolute majority or had indicated their reluctance with regard to the formation of the Government, the only course available with the Governor was to recommend the dissolution of the Assembly. He said that Sec 92 could not be used as a ploy by the Central Govt to engage in proxy rule through the Governor especially in a situation when the formation of Government in the State appeared to be a remote possibility.
Maintaining that the current political situation in the State called for dissolution of Assembly, the NPP chairman said that PDP already having indicated its disinclination to form the Govt by putting forth unwarranted conditions and NC and Congress having conveyed their stand in the media, it was BJP alone which seemed to be interested in Govt formation. But BJP’s desperation alone could not help it form the Govt as it had only 25 MLAs, he added.
He said that there seemed to be no possibility of Govt formation in the State in view of the stand taken by different political parties during the last one month. He said that it is illogical and unconstitutional on the part of PDP to put conditions and indulge in unwholesome bargains for Govt formation as it amounts to a corrupt practice. He said that any concessions given by the BJP led Govt to PDP would amount to unethical conduct aimed solely at formation of BJP-PDP alliance and hence constitute a corrupt practice.
Prof Bhim Singh chief patron and NPP president Balwant Singh Mankotia also addressed the gathering and demanded dissolution of State Assembly.
