JAMMU, Dec 11: Expressing resentment over the harassment of the ReT teachers and other lower rung contractual employees of the State by the BJP-PDP Government, a large number of Panthers Party activists led by Harshdev Singh, chairman of the party and Yashpal Kundal, State president Young Panthers staged a massive protest demonstration at Exhibition Ground here today.
Mr Singh, a former Education Minister drew the attention of the media towards the pathetic plight of lower rung employees of the State. Expressing his grave concern over the highly contemptuous treatment meted out to the contractual employees of the State, he disclosed that the category of employees spanning ReT teachers, NRHM workers, SPOs, EVs, temporary teachers, contractual, consolidated contingent, DRWs, NYCs, Anganwari and Asha workers, Safai Karamcharis, casual workers, etc had been facing the worst form of exploitation and Human Rights violations. He said that the aforesaid employees are suffering not only because of the violation of Minimum Wages Act but denial of wages due to them for months and years together.
Harshdev made a revelation that during the PM’s rally on Nov 7, 2015 in Srinagar thousands of daily rated workers (DRWs), Anganwari and Asha workers, SPOs, ReTs, NRHM workers, Safai Karamcharis, contractual and other casual workers were brought to attend the PM’s rally on the assurance that their long pending issues of regularization, enhancement of honorarium etc. would be duly addressed and settled. He said that it was highly regrettable that no assurance came from the PM. Perturbed by the sinister and alarming episode during which several Safai Karamcharis consumed poison in Katra a few days ago. Such employees are being forced to take such a extreme step.
NPP leader further mentioned that the daily wagers, casuals and CPs workers of PDD, PHE, R&B, I&FC, Forests, Tourism and Tourism Development authorities, etc employed on meager wages ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 4500 per month were also forced to work like bonded labourers without wages for months together. He regretted the non- release of salaries of ReTs and other teachers including EVs appointed under SSA and RMSA.
Rajesh Padgotra, Jagdev Singh, Shankar Singh, Manju Singh and Gagan Pratap also spoke on the occasion.
