SRINAGAR, Oct 27: In a novel gesture on the festival of Eid-ul-Azha, Chief Justice of State High Court Justice M M Kumar allowed thousands of women devotees to offer prayers on the sprawling lawns at his official residence while his wife Santosh Kumar joined the womenfolk in offering Namaz and distributed sweets among them.
The official residence of Chief Justice is situated adjacent to the famous shrine of Syed Yaqoub Sahib at Sonawar. As soon as the women devotees started gathering near the shrine, Chief Justice ordered the opening of the gates of his official residence to facilitate the womenfolk to offer Eid prayers.
Justice M M Kumar’s wife Santosh Kumar also joined the congregation and extended Eid greetings to the women devotees. Later, she also distributed sweets among the devotees to convey a message of brotherhood and communal harmony.
Terming it as a welcome step, some women devotees said, “it is a wonderful gesture on the part of Chief Justice. This is good example of communal harmony. This indicates how the people in Jammu and Kashmir are living in complete harmony with each other and share each other’s happiness”.
