JAMMU, June 9: In a dramatic turn of events, notorious gangster Bagh Ali, head of the ‘Sunny Gang,’ was injured in police firing after he attempted to escape from custody and snatch a policeman’s service weapon.
Police sources identified the criminal as Bagh Hussain alias Baghu alias Sunny, son of Mangat Ali, a resident of Balol Nallah near Kikri Morh in Bari Brahmana, originally hailing from Laswara, Tehsil Bishnah. A hardened criminal and history-sheeter, Bagh Ali is wanted in over 27 serious cases across Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir.
In Jammu and Kashmir alone, he is facing more than 20 cases including murder, attempt to murder, dacoity, kidnapping, criminal conspiracy, and assault on police personnel. Notably, eight FIRs pertain to direct attacks on police teams, including a recent assault on the SHO of Police Station Bari Brahmana.
Bagh Ali was recently arrested in Haryana by a team of Jammu Police Headquarters Zone after detailed investigation into FIR Number 53/2025 registered at Police Station Miran Sahib under sections 109/111/132/191(2) BNS and 3/25 Arms Act.
During interrogation, the gangster revealed he had concealed a loaded pistol and a “kulhadi” (axe) in Banachak village, falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Bishnah. A police team comprising officers from PS Miran Sahib and PS Bishnah, supervised by SDPO RS Pura Gurmeet Singh, moved to the location for recovery of the weapons.
While on site, Bagh Ali attempted to overpower Constable Arun Sharma in an effort to snatch his weapon, triggering a violent scuffle. In the ensuing chaos, and in an act of self-defence, the police team opened fire, injuring the accused.
He was immediately taken to SDH Bishnah for treatment and remains in custody.
Officials confirmed that Bagh Ali led the Sunny Gang, a criminal outfit responsible for a string of heinous crimes in the Jammu-Samba region. His arrest and injury mark a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle organized crime networks in the Union Territory.
Further investigations are underway to trace the gangster’s associates and unravel the full extent of his operations. Police assured that stringent action will continue to ensure public safety and uphold the rule of law.
